Once again I was away from home on Xmas day. It's never the same but it was a brilliant day nonetheless. About 15 or so of us had lunch upstairs. A great meal of food and wine. The rest of the day seemed to go quickly and it got messy but it was sooo much fun.

Boxing day a few of us headed down to Richmond to check things out. Beuatiful down that way. Firstly lunch in Earls Court at Nando's. Then onto some circus in Richmond, Richmond Park at dusk and a few quiet ones at Roebecks. A cozy pub on Richmond Hill that overlooks South London.

Xmas Eve and again this time of year im in London. Just been walking around Piccadily, Regent Street taking photo's and blending into the crowd this afternoon. Working tonight at five. Tomorrow the pub's closed but we have a massive session planned with staff and friends. It feels like forever since I've shared this time of year with my family back home. Still London is a nice place to be now despite the absence of warmth and sun........

Am still a little tired from a big weekend. Lock in session Friday night, Liquid Blue after work Saturday (6am finish) and Rowan's leaving do on Sunday which was nice but somewhat mellow. Everyone was rather stuffed!

If anyone's actually reading this, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

INXS played at the Walakbout in Shephards Bush on Sunday. Lined for 20 mins to get in. It was a pub full of homesick Antibodeans happily singing at top volume to some amazing music. Jon Stevens a good substitute for the late Michael Hutchence. Managed to get right up front. Full band set with accoustic guitars.

Last nights gig was at London Arena. Bused it in from the Camel with about 20 others. Billy organised it all and managed to secure us front row tickets which had me rather excited. Up close to the band with Jon Stevens coming down and leaning over us in the crowd on a few occasions. Another great show, got some awesome pictures! Blondie (on afterwards) were fucking terrible, left half way through....

Work today at 5. Went for walk along the Stand before. Cold outside but the sun shining bright. There were alot of people Ice Skating out front of Somerset House. Xmas is a nice time here.....

It's cold here in London now and it's strange how it changes your mood. I'm still loving it but things seem more mellow, more surreal. The Christmas Tree is up in Trafalgar Sq, Oxford and Regent Streets are all lit up for the month. It' gets dark early but the bright city lights illuminate the way. It's nice to go for a walk along the river, covered in several layers of clothing, taking comfort in the cold.... Today I have the day off, spoke to home this morning, went for a walk along Borough High Street listening to some music that seemed to fit in with the mood, tubed it to Charing Cross, bought Christmas cards in the Strand and now im seeking warmth inside the Internet place.

We've been watching movies of late on the big screen up on the pub's second floor. With it being so quiet in the pub of late it's been possible to close off upstairs and have it for ourselves. Comfy couches, a big projection screen and a fireplace... Also found a great bar just around the corner last night. Csar Bar. It has a pool table, something you don't really see much of here. Spent a few hours knocking back Stella and playing a few friendly games with Mike, Heath and Chris.

A day off work in London. It's a good thing I tell ya. Still working at the pub in Tower Bridge where I spend almost all my time. They've become my new family in a way now. Living and working with these people has ensured that. Saturday night we had a big Christmas party on for First Contact (This company that basically helps travellers and whatever find their way when coming to London) The hostel above the pub is run by them. Place was closed to the public but full nonetheless. Even though we all had to work it was a great night. Bit pissed off though i was assigned to the main bar downstairs and therefore actually doing something resembling proper hard work. Those upstairs had merely a bottle bar to contend with and spent most time on the piss and hitting the dancefloor anyway. Still no compaints I guess. Great DJ and plenty of hot looking women to keep us excited. Every now and then I would take the piss and bolt upstairs to strut my stuff. I am the master at the Greece Megamix! Stayed on after close with all the staff for a lock in session. It got very messy, as we had a little bar tab to spend on ourselevs.. Making my own little concoctions behind the bar was great. Got very, very pissed, and as like always now at the camel, showed off my dancing abilities with some bartop dancing.

Sunday Session at the Walkabout in Sheps Bush yesterday, followed by some dodgy Chicken Tikka at this little Indian joint with a few of the lads i work with. Am planning on being here for Christmas, New Year and all that. What else?? Umm caught Moby last Thursday up at Wembley Arena. Rocked up there with some friends and payed £30 for a standing ticket off some scalper. Bloody good show. One thing about London is that even if a gig is sold out there are always plenty of scalpers on the night selling tickets for not much more than cost price. Gotan INXS gig coming up, our manager Billy knows their promoter and hasorganised a big busload of us to leave from the pub and go see 'em

Sunday, December 01, 2002

Headed up to Wembley Arena after work Thursday night with Shada and Michelle. Moby had a gig on and we figured we'd just turn up and try get tickets. Proved easy as scalpers are common in these parts. Standing tickets for £30 each. Always wanted to see Moby, he makes some amazing music........

It wasn't the best show I've seen but it was still a great few hours. I love live music. These big arenas with 15,000 odd people all their together for the one reason. Moments of contentment. Some songs had us dancing around, a club type feel. Others such as Natural Blues and whatever, with their Cathartic Gospel influence that Moby is known for, were brilliant.

We closed to the public at 3pm today. I'm on a 2 hour break now before starting again at six. It's the first contact christmas party. Everyone's really getting into the spirit of things. We're working but it's going to be one fun night!

Thursday, November 28, 2002

Went clubbing Saturday night, met up with Mark at Bad Bobs in Covent Garden then we all headed to Atomic in Charing Cross Road. Big night of dancing and all that. So at about 4am when the club closed we were forced to leave. I bused it back to the the camel with the intention of going to bed. Get there and all the crew are still up having drinks in the bar. Triple Bundy's went down a treat. There's now video footage of me dancing on the bar in my boxer shorts. Got to bed around 7am?. The sun was up. Slept till 4:30pm Sunday only to start work at 5..

At the Easy Internet place in Trafalgar Sq at present. Me and Heath, another Melbourne boy i work with, are gunna go see James Bond. Days off are a good chance to get away from the pub for a while.

Sunday, November 24, 2002

We were meant to go to some TV show last Sunday, Aimee got tickets through work. Myself, Mike, Aimee, Shada, Betina and Chris headed to Waterloo station to get the connecting traing. We missed it and as the next one wasn't for another hour (It's 45 mins outsiude of London) we knew we'd miss the show. What else do we do on a Sunday night in London? A pub crawl around the West End of course, each chosing one pub as we went along. Had to be one no one had ever been to before. Although that rule was broken with the Porterhouse (My favourite pub in London) and the Intrepid Fox (Very gothic complete with graveyard style scenery). You guessed it, we all got very happy.

Been working lots, it's still fun although a few double shifts tire you out. Not that it bothers me. My time off have been spent catching up on sleep. Oh also caught some little James Bond expo with Zinny the other day. Not quite worth the £9 but good nonetheless. The £4.95 all you can eat at the Deep Pan Pizza Co in Picadilly with Row and Hoffy was good also.

Work the next few days then Days off on Tuesday and Wednesday. There's a big Christmas party for First Contact here next Saturday night. We are closed to the public, All staff will be working but we're all going to get dressed up and soak up the atmosphere. Now I think I'll head into Covenmt Garden to catch up woth Mark for his farewell.....

Monday, November 11, 2002

It's good to have a day off, especially after the last two days of double shift work. Friday there was a very large lunch crowd coming in that got even busier as the day progressed due to it being Friday. Mainly a suit/work crowd. There was a farewell function on upstairs to that night. Whoever put it on had a tab running behind the bar, free drinks meant everyone got messy and clocked up well over a grand. Not to nitpick, but the type of crowd that was present (business suit and tie types) meant there were a few dickheads about. When it's busy this can get annoying at times. Was exhausted come midnight.

Saturday was even bigger. Another double shift with a 10:30am start. Three games of Rugby on with all Three Antipodean teams playing in seperate games. With a large Kiwi crowd always present at our pub, come midday you couldn't move inside. It was busiest early on. Despite working my arse off it was actually pretty fun and I enjoyed the day immensly. A good friendly crowd that got right into the game and the atmosphere. We were supposed to replay the Aussie game afterwards but our video machine messed up. The South African game later on that came only after the leage game involving the Kiwi's and the Pom's. The Staff and locals stayed on after closing up at 11:30pm and I didn't get to sleep till almost five I think. Knocked back a few bundy's then drunk upstairs with Anton and Rowan. All the Kiwi lads did the Hucka for us all which was amuzing...

Today I relaxed. Did washing, shopped and slept. Went for a walk before along the Thames near the pub. An Aussie guy was busking by the river with his electric guitar. Heavy on the reverb and delay it created a perfect mood that echoed through the air. He sung some great tunes. I walked along the river, listening, taking in the veiws and being content. Then I walked through the park and back home to the Camel. Yep, life is good! Ok better get off of here, using the boss's computer down in the cellar.....

Tuesday, November 05, 2002

It's Monday afternoon in London, there's a bit of a chill about but the sun is out. I worked a double shift yesterday after a decent night out with Mark on Saturday night firstly at Henry's in Green Park then some little club/bar in Covent Garden. Toaday is one of those days where London looks as beautiful as ever and I'm really happy to be here. Walked from the pub down in Tower Bridge into Piccadilly Circus to pick up a copy of the new U2 Best Of CD then walked around a bit listening to it on my discman Full of tunes I love as well as some brilliant new ones. Today I'm happy, content and looking forward to the rest of my stay here which could be longer than originally anticipated now.

The job's going great. It's pretty easy once you get into the swing of things. The people I work with are all easy to get along with as well, which makes it all that much better. Had a few nights after work on the drink as well, just kicking back with the others. Pulled out the guitar the other night and drunk beer, sang songs and had a good time. Halloween party tonight and I get the night off. Might take it easy though. It's all good!

There was a memorial service yesterday at St Paul's cathedral in remembrence of what happened in Bali. I lined up Wednesday for two hours to get a ticket at the Australian High Commission. Headed down around 3:30pm yesterday for all the necessary secruity checks then sat inside what is an amazing church for the 5pm service. The place was full to the brim and I think there were probably a few more thousand people outside listening in. It was a very moving and beautiful tribute. The Queen, Prince Charles and the Duke of Edinburgh were all in attendence sitting up the front, some 15-20 rows in front of me.

Oh yeah, also started working last night. Landed a job at The Elusive Camel down at Tower bridge. Moved into a shared dorm room, where the staff sleep, above the pub yesterday and spent last night collecting glasses for my first night. Good to be working, they seem like a good crew so we'll see how this goes I guess.

Monday, October 21, 2002

Back looking for work, It's Monday morning, the new issue of TNT is on the streets. Time to make more phone calls. I intended to have an easy night last night. A quiet drink with an American. Then someone bloody well got me started on Sambucca shots. I don't think i've touched the stuff since my bad experience on the night on my 21st. Spent money last night when I didn't really need/want to. Bit tired today as a result.....
The new U2 single was released today. Ok, so I know I'm biased but it's fucking brilliant. Oh and so is their other new one "The hands that built America" Go listen to it already..

"Its early fall, there's a cloud on the New York skyline
Innocence dragged across a yellow line
These hands they built America"

Sunday, October 20, 2002

Had a trial shift today at the Lords Tavern, the pub at Lords Cricket Ground up in St Johns Wood. Mainly all Aussies that work there it was a good atmosphere. Hopefully I'll get a full time job out of this but have to wait until tomorrow to see. A few others have applied for the position as well it seems. It's a live out thing which means I would have to find my own accomodation and will be hard to save anything but a job's a job and this would be alright.

Monday, October 14, 2002

Some seriously fucked up things go in this world sometimes. I'm sure you've heard about what happened in Bali and with so many Australians involved it brings it that much closer to home. Makes one feel ill. Been reading the news online trying to get details. Why????
It felt like pretty much all of Australia's London population were congregated in one spot yesterday as I went down to the AMP Oval to watch the Essendon v Richmond game. Ran into so many people I knew. My old flatmates in Knightsbridge...... Elicia and Suze... Sull.... Got my tickets from Paul's friend Claire at the start of the game... Briefly saw Keogh from primary school as we were kicking the footy on the ground after the game. Had a brief to chat to all of 'em.

I Headed down to the ground with Ben from the hostel and knocked back a few at the Hannover? pub nearby to begin with. Placed was packed, kicking the footy and talking to other Aussies. Game was great, although low standard but that wasn't an issue. The players and spectators alike wern't taking it seriously at all. Stood near the Richmond bench most of the time, not even paying attention to the game alot of the time. I handed my phone to Duncan Calloway to have a chat to Parry back home at one stage. Ben jumped the fence, sat on the bench with the players as I took his photo. Sam Newman and Eddie Maguire were above us in the stands. I yelled out for Sam to give us a wave, the idiot gave me the middle finger. Ben got it all on video camera.

Came home to change and freshen up, then to the walkabout. Band playing but to crowded. Came back to the Generator bar, DJ playing good music, dancing. Woke my whole room up in an extremely chatty mood...... Have slept most of today.....

P.S. Happy Birthday Dad!!!

Friday, October 11, 2002

Still searching. Been walking into places to try my luck. Hopefully the Walkabout. In a room full of American girls, and Irish girl and an Aussie bloke from Katherine. Typical outback boy. Top bloke.

P.S. - I rule at Karaoke. Losing my religion.....

Monday, October 07, 2002

Friday night was big. Just one of those nights where everyone there was in really high spirits and there to make the night memorable. I won 5 free drinks in a raffle so naturally had to make use of it. I could get anything I wanted so naturally i took advantage of the most expensive £4 cocktails. Knocked back those Long island ice teas and I was happy. The night was fun and everything was just funny. Let's just say I had a good time..

Saturday was quiet...

Awoke Sunday morning, Wes sent me an sms asking if i was going to the church. A Sunday session in an old warehouse full of Aussies, Kiwis and Saffers. Headed down there just after midday, the place is insane. With every song played the crowd roars. The people there have no shame! It's great!

Thursday, October 03, 2002

So I turned down some job opportunities outside of London in favour of working here. I know the town and I know alot of people here. One position that I was pretty certain on gettin after an interveiw with the assistant manager has just been flushed down the toilet, thank you very much! Shoulda taken the other one when I had the chance. Now I've got to start again, feels like I'm going in circles. Same 'ol story really. Two weeks here and still where I started. I've had a good time though where I am, doing nothing much else but hang out during the day and heading to the bar at night for beer and pool with some good people. Not all that productive and a good money waster but no major regrets. If i hadda known it was going to take this long though I probably woulda pissed off to Paris or something for a few days.

Sunday, September 29, 2002

What can I say.. Bit dissapointed by the loss, specially seeing as we could of had it won..... Still, best grand final in a long while.

Met up with Idsy at the Generator about midnight last night, headed to some pub called the Dean with the crew from the hostel for a few hours then proceeded to the Walkabout in Covent Garden at 5am. Was crowded and the atmoshpere great!!! Plenty of Collingwood supporters. Despite losing it was still a memorable time, downing the VB's and a breakfast included. Didn't feel like a normal Grand Final day, weird being here for this time of year but it was great. Left around 9:30am all intoxicated by the happiness of the event. Ended up playing a footy game on the cobble stone streets of Covent Garden with a Collingwood stubby holder. About 20 aussies making lots of noise and causing a scene in front of many onlookers just starting their day. Singing every theme song and Australian related tune on the tube, high fiving any aussie we ran into on the way to Shepherds bush for a kick of the footy on the green. Few more drinks in front of the Brownlow count at the Walakbout down that way. Didn't see in the 1pm replay as planned. Left just before this as Ihad hit a brick wall by this stage. Idsy stayed for a while longer. Great day and met some great people.

Friday, September 27, 2002

Decisions, decisions. Do i hold out and wait a few days to see if this job in Russel Sq is a definate or do i persue these offers at the Walkabout Inn outside of London. To live in London or get out is the question!!!

P.S. GO PIES!!!

Tuesday, September 24, 2002

Got an sms from Paul D yesterday evening "At Walkabout, Shepherds Bush. Get here now" After consuming my £3 dinner at the hostel I caught the central line down for another unexpected session. Again had planned to stay In but it never happens. Was good to see him again, first time since he left earlier in the year and since he fell Ill. Glad he's made a full recovery. Turned into a good night. The place was packed and we spent most time up front listening to the band, talking to people and consuming a few beverages. Wound up about midnight...

P.S. GO PIES!!

Saturday, September 21, 2002

HOT PIES!!
Collingwood are in the Grand Final. Three years ago who woulda thought we'd be back in the big one this soon! Gunna be tough to beat Brissie but I reckon we're a good shoe in. Kinda wish I was home now, for that one day in September.

Friday, September 20, 2002

Still at the Generator...... The last few days I've been trying to look for work... Still... To the best of my ability. Looking up things on the internet, making calls and even walked into a few pubs. Got a few application forms and all that but it's hard. Had some interveiw yesterday at a pub called The George, down Elephant and Castle way. The area itself seemed a bit dodgy and the pub very quiet. Not really my kinda scene.... With Collingwood in the finals im getting homesick. If they make the big one I sooo want to be there...... I'll keep trying for a while longer and see what happens..

Tuesday, September 17, 2002

Hanging around London at the Generator Hostel in Russel Square. Trying to sort my shit out and get some work lined up... It's getting a little monotonous and frustrating but still managing to enjoy myself and stay positive. The place I'm staying at is pretty cool, a massive hostel with some huge common areas and a great bar that stays open till 2am and gets packed out every night. Met alot of people staying there already, casual conversation with like minded travellers. Got chatting to a few Brissie girls at the bar Sunday night and proceeded to hang out with them the rest of the night... Met up with them again yesterday and went into Leicester Square then back to the Generator afterwards. They left this morning for a tour of Europe. People come and go so quickly when your travelling. One minute their there, the next everyone has to go their own way. It's easy to keep in touch these days but still, it isn't the same. There's things I miss already, but still the memory's also keep you smiling..

Sunday, September 15, 2002

Back in London, checked into a hotel last night 'cause I needed a good nights sleep. Sunday afternoon now and I need to get my arse into gear.
I´ve been surrounded by people my own age the last two weeks. Always something to do and always a conversation to be had. Stayed out late last night for our final night of tour. By the time I arose most people had already left for the airport to return home. Before I really got a chance to say goodbye. Anya and Samantha woke me up to say goodbye, Hans my roomie said farewell. Others I said goodbye to last night in the early hours of the morning amongst the noise of the club. Spent today hanging with Alistair, not awake and not alseep. Cab to the airport, ran into Francesca in the lounge and had a coffee. Now alone again, waiting for my flight. I miss them already. Received emails from people in and around London. "We must catch up for a drink" Vague plans. But not really sure what I´m doing when I arrive. Have to sort it all out and start something new. Things until now have been great and easy. I miss it already.

Saturday, September 14, 2002

Last day of tour in Madrid, big night tonight. I rested up last night so I´m all primed and ready for the Madrid night life now. Am kinda ready to wind up the tour now, but definately not ready to head back to London to look for work. A week on the beach in the Greek Islands or the French Riviera would be schweeeeeeet.... An actual holiday where I can stay up late, sleep in and then relax on a beach all day. Basically do my own thang. Doubt It´ll happen, but hey, it´s a good thought right.

Thursday, September 12, 2002

The weather´s good but the women even better. The architecture and history fantastic and from late evening it´s always beer o´clock. Actually, Tequila O´Clock is a common thing lately. Me and Al are developing a reputation as being the cool, calm and collected Aussie guys who love to drink amongst a tour mainly consisting of Yanks. Now in Salamanca, great little University town not to far from Madrid. Lisbon was pretty cool, Costa Dal Sole awesome. Had a relaxing day on the beach their after getting in at 6am from clubbing. Still drunk as we swum in the Mediterranean. Best party town though was Seville, totally nuts. Went to some club called Babalonia, 30 Euro (60 Aus) to get in but was the best club I´ve ever been to. Tour´s almost at an end now, don´t wanna leave.

Wednesday, September 04, 2002

In Spain now, flew to Madrid Monday, caught a cab to the hotel after the dodgy bastard ripped me off in the cab. Turned the meter off soon as he realized I no speak Espanol. Planned to have a quiet night but met a guy from Ballarat doing my tour so we proceeded to have a few beers which turned into a big night out. Started our tour that night with a welcome meeting etc. 3rd day in and having a good time. It´s a different type group to my last Contiki although poeple are starting to relax more now. Staying in Hotels is also a good luxury. Noticably there´s more Yanks and far less Aussies this time round. Only really have one other Aussie drinking partner. Went for drinks again last night and taught a few of the yanks how to speak Aussie, we tried chatting to the local sinoritas but by not knowing their language everyone just nodded and smiled.....

Now in Cordoba, left the rest of the tour to do my own thing for a few hours before meeting up to get the coach. Just heard the news from home. I feel kinda useless and wish i was there for Simon at the moment. His mum just passed away, kinda sudden. In shock and feel a bit ill....

Monday, September 02, 2002

Back in ye 'ol London town for a night before getting a flight to Madrid tomorrow to start my 12 day contiki tour..... Can I handle another one of those things? Won't be as full on as the 29 day one I did last year but shall be good to get some sun!!

Edinburgh was great, relaxing, more peacefull than London and great to catch up with Sticksy and Croughy...

Sunday, September 01, 2002

Had a great roast dinner last night, nice work Soph, then headed down to the Park for a few more pints. Myself, Croughy and Soph all came home rather sloshed. Leave for London tonight on the 10pm bus. Not really looking forward to the 9 hour trip but it was the cheapest option.

Hey Sinny, here's that mention you asked for mate. Btw, how's the hangover???, hope your phone bill doesn't send ya broke...

Saturday, August 31, 2002

Friday in Edinburgh. Cold and wet today, true Scottish weather. Might have a big night out on the town tonight before heading back to London tomorrow. Then it's off to Spain Monday..

Sticksy started working at a nearby pub the other night. Quiet and small place. Went down for a few pints to see how he was going. One drink turned into several, with myself and Jo on the drinking side of the bar and Sticks and Soph on the working side. Good night....

Thursday, August 29, 2002

There's a 36 hole, par 3 golf course out the front door and right across the street from where I'm staying. Just had a quick 18 holes with Croughy and won by 3 shots. Not bad for my first round here, scoring 6 over par. Croughy demands a rematch tomorrow night......

Wednesday, August 28, 2002

It's relax time at the moment. Chilling out doing nothing during the day, sleeping in till I want and then merely walking round town or kicking back in front of the tele. Guess it's the calm before the storm 'cause Spain is going to be massive. Need to watch what I spend to.....

The people here that I've met so far have been great, the weather's been great, as has my ability to shed some of this beer gut with the constant exercise of walking... It's all great!

Tuesday, August 27, 2002

Still in Edinburgh, love it here. Maybe a few more days in Scotland I think. Jimeon was good last night, ran into the guy in the toilets just before the performance. "Jimeon, How are ya mate?!!!".. Meeting famous people in the dunnies is rather funny. Last time that happened it was Mick Molloy at a Bar Called Barry. Ended up at a few pubs afterwards again. The Three sisters is a pretty happening place. Home around 3?? I think? Passed out again on the couch whilst Sticksy in his typical "where the hell am I?" state of drunkeness fell alseep on the floor after giving himself a wedgie!

Walked to the top of the world today. Arthur's seat overlooks the city in all its beauty. Sticksy lead me the hard way up, a steep climb that had me struggling at one stage. Worth the effort... Took the easy option down, the one most people take.

Sunday, August 25, 2002

The Edinburgh festival is on at the moment. The place is a buzz, masses of people walking the streets admist the theatre, comedy and street performance. The Military Tattoo one of the main events, with large amounts of seating constructed at the base of the castle. Have spent the last few days, sometimes in the sun, sometimes under the cloud taking it all in, walking the Royal Mile in the old town. Days have been made up of seeing whats around, finding my place and watching numerous performances. The melloncollie of Bagpipes fill the air, the beating of drums rumble along the stone streets, a clash of culture, performance and ideas strung together to produce something great. Have tickets to see Jimeon tonight with Sticksy, Suze and Elicia.

It was a big night last night, most of ther crew from Sticksy's place as well as other friends and whatever headed to a brewery for a night out of drinking and traditional Scotish dancing. Loads of fun with a great crew. My dancing skills weren't up to scratch to begin with but by the end of the night myself and Croughy we're cutting up the dance floor and had people watching us in awe!!

Ended up at some overly crowded Irish Pub (Is there anywhere in the world where these things don't exist?) for a few more afterwards then we walked home. Fell alseep on the couch.

The new U2 single has made it's way into the world. Great Chorus!

Electrical Storm
The sea is swells like a sore head
and the night it is aching
Two lovers lie with no sheets on their bed
and the day it is breaking

On rainy days we go swimming out
on rainy days, swimming in the sound
On rainy days we go swimming out

You're in my mind all of the time
I know that's not enough
if the sky can crack
there must be some way back
for love and only love

Car alarm won't let you back to sleep
you kept awake dreaming some else's dream
coffee is cold, but it will get you through
compromise, there's nothing new to you
let's see colours that have never been seen
let's go to places no one else has been

You're in my mind all of the time
I know that's not enough
if the sky can crack
there must be some way back
to love and only love

Electrical Storm
Baby don't cry

It's hot as hell, honey in this room
sure hope the weather will break soon
the air is heavy, heavy as a truck
hope the rain will wash away our bad luck

If the sky can crack, there must be some way back
for love and only love

Electrical Storm
Baby don't cry

Edinburgh....... An amazing city with an ancient medievial type feel. Staying with Sticksy and Croughy and it's good to see 'em again. Just went and checked out the castle, very beautiful.

Caught a band called the Doves last night! Was another of those moments where, for a short time, everything seemed so perfect. Great Gig! Love how music can do that!

Thursday, August 22, 2002

Another few days in another great city..... Glasgow is made up of streets lined with shopping malls. George Square is one of the main centres in town. A Piazza type thing containing statues and momuments that reminds me of Italy a little. Surrounded by old architecture it's rather nice.. Just did a bus tour around town for £7.

One of the best things I find about traveling is the people you meet and the friends you make. It's easy to do. Is it because we're all on a common experience, away from home. The hard part though is that sooner or later everyone moves on, goin their own way. It just happens. Some people you'll keep in touch with, others you won't. I guess that's the hard part, knowing that alot of freindships here last only a moment.

Yesterday... Woke up in London in a 5 bed dorm all to myself. Good sleep. Walked around town for a while. The Strand, Trafalgar Sqaure, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, Covent Graden and the big fucking blister on the base of my right foot got worse. There are always street entertainers and such in Covent Graden. There was one guy who was rather good, his main act simply riding his tall unicycle. Sat down in front of the Punch 'n' Judy's pub and watched him entertain the masses. Had a Crownie whilst reading TNT at the Walkabout Inn after that. Very relaxing.

Got my bags, walked to Kings Cross, tubed it to Liverpool St and expressed it to Stansted Airport..... Ryan Air flight FR415 to Glasgow, Scotland. The scenery as I flew in was breathtaking. Forty Five minute train to Central Station, walked to the Hostel and checked in. I arrived to meet a couple of Belguim Lads in my room. Went and Got KFC then walked round town for ages looking for a decent place for a beer. Firstly some little bar club in town then as everything closed at midnight we made it to the Walkabout. Only place that was open. Bought 'em some Aussie beer but they weren't to impressed.. Fell asleep in Glasgow.

So here I am, in a country where all the guys sound like Groundskeeper Willie and the chicks like Shirley Manson. Ya gotta love that!!!

Late Tuesday morning in London. It's time to get out of here for a little while. London sucks your wallet dry. I've spent the last 5 nights at the Generator Hostel which has been a lot of fun, met some great people and had some big nights. A little 5 bed dorm on the second floor that overlooked the main entrance to the hostel. It was a bit noisy at night but that didn't matter. You became a part of the noise anyway. The bar downstairs was great, the £3 sweet and sour chicken from the hostel kitchen last night almost as good.. Having the whole 5 bed dorm to myself last night ensured an early night and a good rest which was much needed after the others left yesterday. Now i've booked with Ryan Air to fly out to Glasgow, Scotland tonight. Will find another hostel there and stay for a few nights, then onto Edinburgh to stay with Sticksy over the weekend. I'm now kinda filling in time before Spain on Sept 2 which is something I'm looking forward to immensly. But Scotland is a place I've never seen so I'm sure it'll be worthwhile. I soooooo hope my money lasts another 4 weeks.............

You meet lots of people when travelling. It comes easy. Perhaps because everyone is like yourself, away from home and their own little comfort zones. You can't go into a bar or whatever at home and start talking to someone and/or end up hanging out with 'em like you can here. Conversation comes easy...

Feeling sore, tired but happy. The Sunday hangover has set in. Patsy came in on Friday for just one night in London. Renata came over from Guildford and Nat got in touch. We all met up at the London Pub and proceeded to get rather wasted. As you do. It was strange. Four friends from Melbourne at the end of the world together............. There were others as well.. Nat's brother Gab, some friends, Renata's friends and some of the girls from my Hostel. Went to Leicester Square and clubbed it at the Equanox..... Home late. Bus tour all day yesterday in the sun and more drinks with Renata and crew at O'Niels last night. Daniel went home last night, don't think he was really ready to.

Now I have decisions, I've booked a Contiki of Spain in two weeks. In the meantime I can either go see Sticksy in Edinburgh for a while or go over and travel with Nat and Gab on the continent for a little bit. Money dissapears quick. My ideas are big, my wallet limited......

I glad i came back. Summer in London is a pretty amazing thing......

Friday, August 16, 2002

Now find myself at the Generator Hostel in Russel Square. Arrived yesterday and sharing a dorm with an american, a canadian, a spaniard and a french person. Went to Covent Graden last night for a little pub crawl with Karin and Larisa , then ended up back at the hostel bar for a few more drinks and Karaoke. Pretty big night. Place here is pretty cool, lots of young travellers. Think I'll spend a few days here before going down to Spain or up to Edinburgh. I'm sleep deprived......

Achill, although a very beautiful part of the world, was in general quiet and isolated. Not that that's a bad thing. Our last few days were spent getting tours of the island (The Atlantic drive is breathtaking) and drinking at thePubs at night. Now I'm in the easy internet cafe near Trafalgar Square in London and happy to be here. It feels different to when I was here last January. Summer changes the mood. People everywhere and it's pretty darn warm... Stayed at the Royal National hotel last night after spending countless hours in cars, on buses, airplanes and waiting in transit. Went for a walk in around Convent Garden last night after I got in, the place was packed with people relaxing in cafes, pubs ort just sitting down on the street knocking back some beers. It's an awesome atmosphere. Nato should arrive today, Patsy tomorrow. Plan to have a big few days. Also thinking of doing Contiki or Busabout around the continent for a few weeks. Living in Hotels,Hostelsat the moment so maybe a good way to spend my time.. Why not eh?

I'm to tired to think now, but I'll give it a go. The best way to describe the wedding was shall we say, Massive. The service was nice, in a smallish church here on the island. The reception at a new place called Alice's just before you cross over into Achill. With some 300+ people in attendance it was a massive day. The meal was great, the speaches also. But it wasn't till later on that things really kicked off. Once the room had been cleared of tables and the band set up people really got into it. I've been to a few weddings before but this was definately the best. Along with the normal drunkin dancing, there was alot of traditional Irish dancing as well. Then at conclusion of the main reception there was as a full bagpipe and drum thingy that had everyone standing around cheering it on. I had to much to drink, as we left the front bar at around 5am, went down the beach as the sun came up then finally stumbled into bed.

Another thing I find here is the sense of community between family. You don't just go out and get sloshed with your mates, you get sloshed with your family, your parents, grandparents, whatever. Last night we went to a few pubs, the Minaun is nice pub and is full of Republicans. Lots of Sinn Fein posters everywhere. Left the at 1 as I jumped on the minibus to go to the Achill Head with everyone else. I thought my night would end as we left there at 3am but a few of us got a lift back and ended up at one of the houses, drinking whiskey, vodka, beer and Cider. Nigel one of the Irish guys here pulled out his left handed guitar and about 10 of us sat roud the kitchen singing songs.... Not one person was sober......

Friday, August 09, 2002

In Achill Island now. My bags arrived at around 8:30am, after 2 days AWOL! Got the bus over here, going via Gallway and am now staying with Dan and Gab's and their family. There's a bunch of houses all very close by all occupied by different family members. White houses scattered amongst the hills and the ocean. Proper Irish people void of the tourist onslaught that's associated with Dublin. We're the only aussies. It's much quieter here but the Serentity is next to none... Steve's Wedding tomorrow... The Irish like to drink. The next few days are going to be great!

Wednesday, August 07, 2002

Back in Dublin after arriving here at around 8am yesterday morning. Two stops in Singapore and London, the later had me running a marothon in record time in order to change terminals and make my connecting flight... Arrived in Dublin to find my baggage never turned up so have been spending the last day filling out lostbaggage forms, making calls and chasing the bastard up... Apparently it ended up at Gatwick airport, so should be here tonight which means spending an extra night in Dublin than planned..... Starting to get smelly due to lack of fresh clothes.. Had to buy some new undies this morning. Health and saftey issue there....

Spent Yesterday checkin out town for a while then proceeded to head to a pub in Temple Bar (Oliver Gogarty's) for a pint of the local brew. One pint turned into numerous as i met a couple of guys from Belguim and proceeded to drink with them... Might to a bus tour this arvo. Headin over to Achill island tomorrow to meet up with the Patsy's.

I love this city. The atmosphere, the people the vibe.....

It's been a while since I posted I know. I guess i've been a) to busy b) to lazy or c) to carefree to even bother. Last few weeks have had their fair share of events. Nights out in town that have eventuated in the Casino at 3am playing roulette. Also a big night out at Bridey O'Reileys in Chapel St for Gab's farewell. Was all hapening last Saturday night at the first floor bar in Brunswick St. Staying sober is actually quite easy and amuzing when you see freinds make clowns of themselves.

Working for the family business, but guess what, I've finished up now. For on Monday I leave for La Dubilin. Woohoooooo

Today I received a call from Marcus. Needed someone to do stage lighting for tonight's gigs at the Evelyn. Jack Jones, of Southern Sons fame has a new band. They were on first and already had someone doing their lighting but was a good starter for me to take notes. So yeah, next two bands I took up posi behind the lighting desk and tried to figure out what the fuck I was doing. By the time the final band came on I started to make it work. I wasn't a master at it by a long stretch but i kinda knew what I was doing. Plus now i can say I've done lighting for some high profile Aussie Muso's. The Persian Rugs are made of of some ex-members of The Hoodoo Guru's including, Dave Faulkner, their lead singer.....

Time to move on again. Need to get it out of my system. I've booked to leave August 5 bound for Dublin. Some time there in the west of Ireland for a wedding will be great fun. Then back to London I suppose to look for work and a place to live if i want to stay on. Got no idea what's going on really. Seems like alot of money just thrown up into the breeze. Naturally there's some doubt on whether this is the right thing or not. Hope it isn't wasted. I do have a few more days to actually pay for the flight so there's still more thinking time. Still i'm pretty darn excited.

Croughy, Sticksy. Beer O'Clock I say. Just don't lead me into any more gay pubs ya bastards!

Thursday, July 18, 2002

Ok will someone please tell me how the hell Elvis Costello played gigs in Melbourne over the last 2 nights and I didn't even know about it until now? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Surely I haven't become a hermit?

I know it's easy to be biased with people you know, but I caught 'Rising/some' again last night and they are honestly reeeally good.
Ventured to a place I didn't even know about until last night. The laundry in Johnston St is a smallish live music venue. Intimate and relaxed.

Wednesday, July 17, 2002

I've been sitting here thinkin' of something to write. It's late again so naturally i'm tired and my thoughts are racing at a million miles an hour. Right now i'm not content where I am. In a moment that may change, when i'm doing something constructive. I'm thinking in circles. Home is where the hurt is. Is there something else?..............................

U2 are to realease another Best of cd around November. Tracks from 1990-2000 with 2 new tunes, and a b-sides disc. There's going to be a DVD as well. Oh, and the Slane gig from September 1 is due out to. Gotta love that........

Sleep time...

Monday, July 15, 2002

So this time last year I was on the French Riviera, hanging out in Nice and Monte Carlo. Macca got kicked out of the casino for doing a beetle on the floor. Aussie Shennanigans didn't go down to well in a classy Monty Carlo casino. I lost my dosh on the roulette table and proceeded to have a few drinks at the bar with the others. Went swimming in the water at Nice on a beach with no sand just big fucking rocks. It was Basteelle day when we were there and there were lots of young people on the beach in Antibes making noise under the fireworks. It was fucking great.

Photography is a small hobby of mine I guess. Not that I'm all that good, I only own a basic Cannon 35mm and a Pentax digital. But even still, sometimes you get some good photos out of them. Point the camera against the sun and the resulting silhouettes can very cool.

I guess I do this journal more for my own personal satisfaction than anything else. Not many read or take an interest in this as such, not that it really matters, it's merely a way for me to put down thoughts in my head into some kind of legible and understandable form.

You ever get the feeling your life should be something else, somewhere else? Always want more than what you've got 'cause what you have now isn't what you actually want or because what you want you can't seem to get... Ya follow that?

I watched Secret Life of Us tonight around at Hamo's. It's been a few weeks since I actually sat down and watched it. I should more often, it's a quality show. Filmed around the St Kilda area.

Weekend was weirdish. Once again Saturday I came home drunk from the effects of beer, bourbon and vodka and wished i hadn't of gone so far, feeling dissatified with my night. Rising Some at the Evelyn was great, nothing like live music. But a few drama's followed afterwards and things got, what's a good description here,.. Strange perhaps. Not that it was shit, far from it, danced away at a Bar called Bary for a few hours and took in the atmosphere. But some people had left by this stage. By the time we went home, I wasn't ready for it and/or felt dissatisfied by that. I really enjoy doing something new each time i go out. Lately it's been the same 'ol things.... Friday Tram Bar. Oh Joy... Sunday went to Johns place at Beacon Cove with the family. I really had to force any kind of conversation alot of the time. I hurled myself on the couch and wanted to fall asleep. I know i get antisocial sometimes and look bored. Happen's when your tired. So what right....

Pete won Big Brother. Sure he had the sympathy vote but he was well derserved nonetheless. The final eviction actually made somewhat good television... Brazil won the cup and turned the aftermarth into a prayer session. Cafu stood atop of a stand, held the cup high as streamers and smoke filled the area. Seemed more like something out of a cheesy Pepsi / Michael Jackson video... Now, once again, there's nothing on television. Turn it off or change the channel.. Oh wait, Smallville started here tonight. Used to watch it in London and loved it. There's my Tuesday nights taken...

I was one of only a few going for Germany at this bar in Northcote on Sunday night. Sorry, but Ronaldo and his hair cut shit me. Then again at least Brazil are more animated than the Germans. Place was packed, arrived just as the game started and had to fight my way up the front where the others were sitting. The highlight came after the game from a 5 yo boy. There was a set of drums up front and the wee little tacker decided to get up and play. Each time he bashed away the crowd would cheer him on at hight volume ....

Friday night was another night out in town but nothing to rave about. Spent shitloads of dosh and caught the nightrider home on ma own. Byrnsey had his 21st on Saturday night. I drove home the drunk people.....

Wednesday, June 26, 2002

'Scuse my lateness in posting the news but England are out. Dammit. The pubs of Melbourne were packed last Friday for the game. The line at the Elephant was massive so we didn't bother, they locked the doors of the Charles Dickens 'cause it was so full and Pugg Mahones was soooo crowded we couldn't see the screen. Ended up at the Exchange Hotel. Although still busy and everyone watching it wasn't quite the same as any of the other places. Missing were the homesick English cheering their own team on, instead we had a pub full of local suit 'n' ties in for their end of week, after work drinks.

Went to a battle of the bands thingy at the Armidale Hotel Sunday night. Knew one of the guys playing in one of the bands. Anyhow, it was put on by radio station TripleM. The winner going to the national finals in Sydney, which in turn leads to a gig at that M1 gig at Colonial Stadium. With three bands on the night, two of them were rather good, the other average. Guess who won??? Trust TripleM to pick an an unworhty winner. Rachel, the ex-member of Big Brother on the judging panel. Obviosly fame and status is more important than actual musical knowledge......

Still overly keen to move on from here again. Bored, bored, bored! ..."Oh but you don't have enough money or assets to leave at the moment". Blah blah blah....

GO ENGLAND! GO ENGLAND! GO ENGLAND!
4:30pm kick off our time today. Gunna head into town soon to watch the big game. The world cup is getting alot of attention here at the moment, despite the fact the Aussies never even made it. Beck's is even making front and back pages of the papers here in Melbourne.

We got a webcam.. Just another useless waste of money really.

Hello

P.S. - Hey Sticksy, leave us a comment ya geezer! (Hint - click on the word 'comments' that's in blue just below my name)

Monday, June 17, 2002

Penalties are a sucky way to decide a world cup game. Ireland lost 3-2 in a penalty shoot out last night after drawing 1-1 with Spain at full time. It was right on the 90 minute mark that Ireland scored the equalizer, which bought the house down at Pugg Mahones. Ya gotta feel for Kilbane though, who missed two penalties throughout the game. Ah well...

The mood at Pugg Mahones was awesome. Myself, Simon and Daniel turned up around 7pm (some 2 and a half hours before the game) so to try and get a prime position. The Sweden/Senagal game had just finished as we arrived and as a result the place was full of Sweeds. Not to mention those hot looking, tall, blonde women that the country is renowned for. Had a good optic nerve!!

Loads of Irish kept flocking in and we felt like a minority being Australians, not that that's a problem, in fact it was great being in a pub full of backpackers cheering and singing for their country at high volume. Tried chating up a few Irish birds whom were watching the game next to us, seemed a little snobby at first but got 'em talking as the game progressed. Then Ireland went and lost and alot of people lost the will to party it seemed. Me and Simon stayed on, drunk to much and chatted to anyone and everyone. Don't think we knew where we were by the end of the night?

Got back to Simons place around 2:30? The things alcohol makes one do. Cracking an egg on my forehead just before passing out seemed funny at the time ok! Felt like shit this morning.

People reading this jounal must think im an alco. I'm not I swear. It's just the law to drink lots whilst watching a world cup game ok.

Even the best of 'em get knocked back from time to time.

U2's Rejection letter for a record deal

Thursday, June 13, 2002

Was great to see the Irish win 3-0 the other night. Pugg Mahones in the city was full of Paddy's cheering 'em on which made for a great atmosphere. Went in with Aldrich and Patsy for the 9:30 game. As we watched on the bigscreen upstairs we were surrounded by those green Eircom geurnseys and Irish accents. With all the supporting and cheering going on I was reminded of when i was actually in Ireland. The last time i heard a crowd of people chant "Ohlay ooohlay ohlay ohlay" was at the Slane castle gig.

Have just been watching Big Brother uncut. Not as into it as I was last time around but still keeps me occupied from time to time.

Oh yeah, I just received an email message from 'GOD'

MORE WINE PLEASE
What better way to watch an England game than at a pub full of noisy Poms. The Elephant and Wheelbarrow went off Friday night, despite my being so goddam wasted i was seeing two soccer balls by the end of the game. First beer at PJ O'Briens at 12:45pm. Several bottles (between us) of white wine at lunch, followed by Bundy Rum at the casino bar for several more hours, then a few pints in front of the soccer. Finishing up with bourbon at Icon Bar at around 1am???? Let's just say I suffered dearly the next day, but so what, it was worth it! Was good to catch up with Steed again as well. Back from London for a short time.

Spent Sunday down at Sandy for Steed's birthday, enjoyable afternoon but didn't know all that many people and was still hungover. After Friday I thought it best not to touch wine again for a while. Bleh. Finished up at Simon's house for a few more beers. Low key but nice. Game of basketball at around midnight had me coughing up a lung...............

Today went into the Good Food show with Mum, Dad and Rob. There were lots of stalls giving out free wine samples/tasting. Moved from stand to stand trying out the different brands and styles of wine that were on offer. It was free and it was great!

WORLD CUP
How good is it having the world cup on at the moment? For someone who never used to really enjoy the game, It's got me hooked. I guess living in England kinda made sure of that. Ireland's goal last night with 30 seconds to go was sensational. Tomorrow night's a big one. England v Argentina, and I'm pumped up for a night in town, at a good pub, to watch the game whilst downing several pints.

Wednesday, June 05, 2002

Still getting up, going to work every morning and feeling like it's cause I have nothing else to do. This kinda bugs me. There's soooo much more I wish I was doing with my life but here I still am. Procrastonating. Or perhaps I'm just to darn picky when it comes to making decisions!

So what things would I prefer to be doing now instead then? I know i need to involve myself with something that i'm passionate about. Something that doesn't become work anymore. Something that involves other people with similar interests... It's wierd, I think I need other people around me to be happy, but I contradict myself by knowing that I also need my own space as well.

I'd love to pursue my guitar playing more, be in a band. Doing regular gigs would be enjoyable

or...

Studying/working in the field of sound. Live mixng/Studio recording etc I have always planned to go back and study again. Looking back on it, I think my choice of course at Latrobe wasn't the greatest in terms of career prospects. Anyway..

or..

Still want to head back overseas, to be working somwhere in Europe, living in a house with a bunch of other travellers with stints of occasional travel in between. Enjoying life away from home.

or...

Stay here, move outta home into soemwhere thats more inner city, find a better job and enjoy life here a little more.

RISING SOME
The band had their debut gig at The Evelyn last Thursday night. A large crowd turned out to witness a set of blissful rock. They sounded pretty darn good if you ask me. Whitty's voice has improved since the old Winston days and the song arrangements much, much better

BREAKFAST, ALCOHOL, OFF KEY SINGING AND NEW TOYS
There's a cool little cafe/restaurant in Brunswick St, well ok there are friggin' tons of 'em, but there's one in particular that I didn't even know about until Sunday. After awaking at around 1pm on the living room floor at freinds place, it seemed like a perfect day for mid-afternoon breakfast. Babka's is a Russian type place right across the road from The Evelyn. Rather small but rather busy, as was Brunswick St as a whole on the day. It turned out to be a rather relaxing, sunny and enjoybale afternoon. Had to line up and wait for a table. Myself, Lachie and Katrina went down for the best poached eggs on toast with tomato, sausage and beans i've had in a while. The beans were fucking sensational!! and the bread home made on premises. It was the perfect thing to help with the hangover from the events of the night before...

Saturday night went to Finbars in Brighton for Lach's birthday. Large crowd there talking, drinking and dancing away like gits. I drunk waaaaaay to many vodka/oranges and towards the end of the night got up on stage, hijacked the microphone and got the crowd singing a rendition of Happy Birthday that, although well received, was fucking terrible on my behalf. Totally off key and off my face!!!

Friday night went to Dibeirs, Amber Lounge, Irish times and The Loft. Felt like I went everywhere. Amber Lounge was much better than I thought it would be. The crowd, although still trendyish, was a little more tolerable and less (for lack of better word) woggy than I expected. Definately a meat market though, some quality women indeed.

Have worked all week but I won't talk about that. Spent ages tonight going through stuff in my room. Just plane 'ol organising really. Threw out alot of blurry photos from Europe, sorted through piles of music and hi-fi equipment.. ie leads, microphones, ac adapters etc etc etc and organised them into boxes , threw out what no longer works, what I no longer need etc etc etc blah blah blah.... Have sooooo much shit in and around my room.

Ooohhh the parents came back from Singapore on Monday morning, Dad's a sucker for electronic gadgets and all that. Gotta love that! He came home with a brand spankin' new digital camera for himself, and bought myself and Damian a minidisc player and an mp3 player. Woohoo. Not to mention the usual things like clothes and watches. Things that really one doesn't need but is still very thankful to get.

Thursday, May 23, 2002

Last night I headed up the tram bar, usual midweek gathering with mates. A few beers and conversation. It was also Mark's last night out before heading back up North. Hamo came out as well, think he needed to get out of the house for a while and was glad when i rang. With Andy out herself it gave him a chance to catch up with us all again. Think he got a bit of trouble for doing so. Mental note..Don't get married until your at least 40....

Today was a strange day indeed. For no real reason, was just the mood. I had one of those completely sleepless nights last night. I couldn't relax, was tossing and turning and even though I was mega tired I couldn't fucking nod off. Got up a few times, watched a bit of late night/early morning tele and finally got to sleep around 5:30am.....I think..... So yeah, as a result I slept most of the day and gave work the middle finger. Went to the postoffice, then up to the park for a walk. It was becoming twilight about this time and as the descending sun blanketed the park with golden halflight (cheesy poetry alert) the day was coming to an end. Due to my fucked up bodyclock things seemed strange, I hadn't been awake that long. Since then I've basically done stuff-all and I'm feeling completely and utterly unproductive. So here I am now, typing to a screen to pass time. Wishing I was in another time, another place....

I really wanna listen to Counting Crows "August and everything after". One problem..Where's the fucking cd dammit!!

Step out the front door like a ghost into the fog
Where no one notices the contrast of white on white...
I walk in the air between the rain through myself and back again. Where? I don't know

BEAUTIFUL DAY
It was a day I don't think I'll really ever forget. 80,000 eager people crammed into an open space in the grounds of Slane Castle. All from different parts of the globe there for what became more than just a show. It became a celebration of U2's music and career. It was a beautiful scene for a rock concert and the whole day became rather special. From the hour long bus ride that took us from O'Connell st, to the hours vegging out by the beer tent, the selection of great bands and talking to people you didn't even know.

the lead up to to gig

It's hard to pick a single moment that shone through that day. Although, here's a moment that pretty much made the hairs on my back stand up. As the castle was all lit up in colour they played a tune that hadn't been played live for quite some time. I guess it was kinda expected in a way. It suited the mood so perfectly. The reason for everyone being there.....

Mother's day today. Lunch with the family down at Johns place at Port Melbourne. Minus Dad who's in Italy on Business. Nice day.
Hamo's birthday tonight. Few of us round there drinking beer, smoking to much and taking mostly incoherent sense that i guess still has meaning. The type of talk that eventuates when your with close freinds. About times gone by, about stupid things everyone gets up to, about our lives in general.. Does that make sense?????

Caught up with Wen, Cynth and Sam again last night at the Dan. Haven't seen some of 'em in like 2 years. You wouldn't have noticed though. Just like it was way back then..... Time shoots on by.

At home now, almost time for bed. Haven't written as much lately. Am I starting to lose interest in things once more? Boredom I guess leads to frustration which leads to not caring.... Perhaps it's just my current mood......
SYDNEY
Sydney was great.... Four nights staying at Saville in Oxford Street with Simon. A two bedroom apartment on the 11th floor overlooking Sydney and the Harbour. Went to a variety of clubs and pubs over the course of our stay, my favourite probably being an Irish Pub down at Bondi Junction. Alot of the places in the city and down near the harbour, although pretty cool, also seemed a little to trendy and fake for my liking.

Sydney is a great city though. It was the first time i've really spent time there to check it out. Did a harbour cruise which was breathtaking and thanks to friends who live there we got a chance to be driven around a bit to see Bondi , Manly etc etc etc. Oh and seeing Elle and Mimi Mcpherson sitting down to lunch at Wooloomooloo Bay was pretty darn good. As we walked past and noticed the two our jaws dropped and we got rather excited...

Just got back from four nights in Sydney. HUGE weekend, and now I need a liver transplant. I'm completely and utterly knackered now, can't be fucked writing much so i'll get to that later

Damn i miss overseas... London was a beautiful place, never short of a good time at a good pub. Funny how things you haven't thought of in a while suddenly pop into your head. Things that seem almost like a dream now but at the time became a normal part of your day to day. Those midweek antics with workmates in Hammersmith. The area is crawling with pubs and we spent so much time there. The Dartmouth, Edwards, William Morris.

The service on Saturday night at the Indian restuarant was appauling. Waited two hours for a few bits of chicken and rice. Mind you with all that red wine, I didn't notice as much. Time shoots on by when you've had a few and indulge in conversation. 'Twas Kosty's birthday, and it's not often we go out for dinner as a group. I really enjoy it.

It's been a weird week. Very up and down. In light of what happened, I opted against going to Echuca with the guys over the Easter break. Instead staying home with freinds and family here. Jordon came down from Sydney and it was good catching up with him on Friday and Saturday night. The later seeing us go to this cool little Belguim beer cafe in St Kilda. Spent Sunday with the family doing the traditional Easter lunch thing. With Easter and other circumstances, I've had a few days off work lately. Oh yeah, also spent Monday down at Beacon Cove-Port Melbourne with Rob, Rich and Ange. Was a beautiful day relaxing by the bay, a few drinks, fish 'n' chips and lotsa sunshine.

Lisa's funeral was Wednesday. Alot fo people turned out for what was a very sad but moving tribute to a person so young and graceful. David is still in hospital.

Another weekend is here and tonight I feel like heading into town to listen to some good live music. Will go and see The Australian U2 Show.

You see these kind of things all the time on the news, but rarely give it a second thought. When it's close to home with people you know the reality of it all really affects you. There was a horrible car crash Wednesday night. Dave is in hospital in a critical but somewhat stable condition, Lisa, his girlfreind never made it. It don't seem fair. I was out with them both last Saturday night. It's been a hard few days and I now pray Dave pulls through. Woke up to the news yesterday morning and spent the afternoon with my mates. Everyone was feeling like shit, conversation seemed minimal but I guess there was no need to talk at times. We all felt the same way.

MIDWEEK
Got a bit of a scare last Saturday night when I was out with the guys. Learnt that Paul D, whom is in Taiwan, fell sick to Menangitis and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition. Was very upsetting, but thankfully within about 24 hours we learnt he was getting better. Hope everything is OK.....

I've been sorting through piles of overseas memorabilia, photos, bank statements and other related crap. Doing so has given me a grasp of how much I actually spent whilst i was away. I gotta admit, I had NO idea of the value of money when I first went over. It was all new to me and I spent money as if it didn't mean much or without even realising.. Guess I was just living for the moment. So now if I go back I won't be able to lash out as much and would be forced to work most of the time. Not that that's a bad thing. Still, having done it before, I now know that value of living away and how to look for cheaper alternatives.

So today I worked again. Standard day and I dunno if i really have much to say about it. Container of Lollies came in about 3:15pm and had to unload it at the tail end of the day. Everyone was rushed.

Tonight I caught up with Rob. He's just come back from London as well after spending a fair amount of time there. Says he's ready to settle back down here now. A commitment im not sure of myself. Anyway... Went over to his place first up then drove into Brunswick St with himself, Rich and Angela. Parked our butts on these mega comfy couches in the corner, (so comfy I could have easily stayed there and fallen alseep) at the Provincial hotel and sucked back a few quiet beers. T'was good catching up again and to talk about stuff we got up to in London. Place was pretty busy to for a Wednesday, it seemed. Oh yeah, me and Rich got chatting about Primary School and people we haven't seen since. I struggled to even come up with names as I could hardly remember anyone. Mind you this was looking back to Grade 2 and 3.... Naturally afterwards we ended up at the Souvalaki King, Standard. I resisted though and merely opted for a few Dimi's and a Potato Cake. Robs comments after eating a Kings Choice. "Now i've been to the King I know im really home!" Great Stuff. I love Brunswick St.

THE SPACE BETWEEN
Am I unwillingly starting to settle back into a comfort zone that I have spent 24 years bought up in? Some freinds and family have recently tried to tell me it may not be all that worthwhile to head back over. Do I just focus on what i've got here or do i keep looking elsewhere? There's lots here, don't get me wrong. Sometimes the sun shines and it feels like staying here could work out, then the rain comes suddenly and all I want to do is move on again. Im caught between the two.

Im really in the mood to just go to JB and lash out on some good music/DVD purchases. It's been a while since i treated myself. I've just discovered Dave Matthews. (Ok well it may be only one song but it's darn good). Should i go and buy the cd?

These fickle fuddled words confuse me
Like will it rain today
We waste the hours with talking talking
These twisted games we’re playing

The space between
Where you smile and hide
That’s where you’ll find me if I get to go

Take my hand
Cause we’re walking out of here
Right out of here
Is all we need dear

The space between
What’s wrong and right
Is where you’ll find me hiding
Waiting for you

FORGET HOW TO SIT STILL
Am I ever at home lately?? When im not at work i've been out with mates. Mostly to the pub, or even the occasional stint of midweek clubbing hasn't been unheard of. I like it that way as I find it hard to stay In.

Had Rich 'n' Anges birthday last Saturday night. Firstly several Pints were downed at Pugg Mahones, moved onto Chokolate (funky little club in town), then Icon Bar (Complete with Coyote Ugly style bartop dancing), then onto the Odean at Crown. Was good catching up with all the old school guys at Icon as well. Three groups of mates seemed to all come together for a night of total drunken antics. That ensured a late and good night.

It's Gooch's birthday tonight. Jaysus it's gunna be messy again, everyone's going! Toothy's getting married tomorrow. He's my age..I'm not that bloody old..Am I?

24
It's my Birthday tomorrow and as im 24 it's just another day really. After 21 they just aren't the same. The usual Birthday celebrations will still take place though. Going out and drinking lots. Dinner tonight in town (Teppanyaki) which should then progress to somewhere else. Tomorrow I have a D&D ball at the old Exhibition Buildings. Heading in with Simon. Already Paid and hired a suit but yet to receive my ticket in the mail. Apparently somewhere along the lines someone got slack so I have to pick it up myself now at the door. Oh and apparently the computer couldn't find me a suitable match based on the vague questionare that had to be filled out ie name, age, fav drink, fav music etc etc etc so im going solo. Hopefully it'll be a huge night. Well it better be as tomorrow is the day I was born. I crave attention dammit.

MORE RAMBLINGS
Kinda finding im bored with my work and living back at home already after only 2 weeks. Funny that. Oh well i shouldn't really complain i guess despite finding midweek boredom frustrating. Probably cause im alone more now than i have been in the past six months. Im used to the constant company of people my own age.

Went for a big drive in my trusty Ford last night all the way down towards the beach area. Guess I was a little bored eh.

Been listening to the latest offerings by Something for Kate and New Order. I think they've both been out for a little while now but I haven't really had a chance to listen to them until now. Both are great! Oh yeah and I finally got my hands on that U2 Elevation DVD which is rather awesome. Only criticism is that I reckon it woulda been better had they not jumped the gun and perhaps waited until later on in the tour to make the film. The show got somewhat better as the year went on. Still, I think it's my favourite of all the U2 gigs released over the years. Now if only they'd release that Slane gig. As far as i know it was actually caught on camera, directed by the same guy who did the Boston thing.

ROUTINE
So now i've been home for a little over a week and I must admit, it's good to be home for Summer. It's been a good week to, catching up with everyone and going out lots. I really love it here this time of year and although things at home seemed a little weird at first, it's sooo quiet here compared to the rush of London, i've settled in pretty well I think. My first night back at home was the best sleep i've ever had!.

In the first few days back I went to the new Tram Bar in Doncaster (rather average and full of 18yo's), a Hawaiin themed birthday party complete with a room full of hot women in bikinis and also to the Austalian Open afterparty at the Metro. Some very big nights there.

Back at work now trying to save up for the airfare back to Europe. It's funny how things at work seem exactly the same as when I left. Everyone's still in the same routine and it took me no time at all to realise where I was and what I was doing. Perhaps after a few weeks I'll be ready to head back but for now it's all good. St Kilda Festival next weekend as well. Bring it on!

A SORT OF HOMECOMING
And your heart beats so slow
Through the rain and falling snow
Across the fields of mourning to a light thats in the distance
Oh dont sorrow oh dont weep
For tonight at last
I am coming home
I am coming home

NEW YEARS EVE
It's New Years eve and I got a little time to waste before meeting up with Steed for way to many drinks. Hopefully should be a good night, just had pre drinks with the guys from Flat 25. Only met 'em tonight to, all from Melbourne. Funny how we've been living there for a few months now and not known each other.

I'm in Oxford Street and it's darn cold here in London now. Flashback to Christmas day.... It was actually pretty good, spending it with a large crew down Hammersmith way that included Sticksy and Mick from home. Great lunch at a pub that included Christmas turkey and lots of red wine. It was then back to the base for a house party that kicked on till about 1am in the morning. Naturally by the end of the day I was very intoxicated and upon walking down to Shephards Bush searching for an open Kebab place it actually started snowing. Not much but it was definately there. So as I walked home eating my Kebab it was fell down. The day was filled with a great bunch of people and was a great consolation from being away from home and doing the usual Christmas thing.
